TAG Health, GHIE, & Georgia HIMSS

The Economic Stimulus Package and Healthcare Technology

How will the stimulus money flow, and how can you prepare?

May 2009

As national and local leaders plan the transformation of the delivery of health services through the adoption of health information technology (HIT), stakeholders are still uncertain as to how Federal stimulus monies will flow and ultimately impact Georgia strategies, plans, policies, and economy.
This event will bring together key national, state, and local leaders to provide insight into the HIT provisions within the American Recovery And Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) ---- specifically how ARRA is expected to accelerate the adoption of Electronic Health Records (EHRs), Health Information Exchanges (HIEs), and other technologies in physician offices, hospitals and other care settings. Also represented will be the role and views of additional key stakeholders including public health, employers, and payors. The ARRA provides the largest influx of money from the Federal government for HIT.
This program will feature Commissioner Dr. Rhonda Medows, from the Georgia Department of Community Health, who will present the strategic vision for how the state of Georgia is planning to use HIE and HIT to advance the health of Georgians. This event will culminate by featuring success stories from Georgia and across the country, including interactive roundtable discussions that will address lessons learned, economic feasibility, long-term financially sustainable models, and suggested community next steps.
