About the panelists…
Cynthia Merritt is the assistant director of the Retail Payments
Risk Forum at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, where she is
responsible for managing research initiatives focused on emerging risks in
legacy and alternative retail payment systems. Cynthia helped launch the
Retail Payments Risk Forum as a new department and special initiative at
the Atlanta Fed in 2008 in response to the recognized growth in electronic
payment adoption and new innovative payment schemes, with a recent focus
on the mobile channel. Cynthia is also editor for the Retail Payments Risk
Forum’s Portals and Rails blog.
Cynthia’s Fed career began as a senior bank policy analyst in the Policy
and Supervisory Studies Group in the Atlanta Fed’s Supervision and
Regulation Division, where she was responsible for research and analysis
of trends affecting the banking industry. Prior to joining the Federal
Reserve in 2004, she worked in various capacities for the Comptroller of
the Currency. Her career with the OCC spanned 14 years and included
extensive work with problem and complex national bank organizations, with
a specialized focus on commercial credit, wealth management, and capital
market activities. She received a BS degree in finance with a banking
concentration from the University of South Carolina. She also completed
the ABA’s National Graduate Trust School at Northwestern University.
Sidharth (Sid) Singh serves as Senior Vice President & Global
Product Head, at Global Payments Inc. (NYSE: GPN), one of the world’s
leading payment processing companies.
Sid has been active in the payments industry for more than eleven years,
handling a variety of general management positions including new product,
business & corporate development. Sid was part of the founding team of
Global Payments joint venture with HSBC in Asia Pacific and transitioned
from HSBC, where he previously served as Senior Manager, Regional Business
Development. Sid was responsible for all aspects of product & strategy
development for the AP business and was instrumental in developing new
core merchant acquiring products that significantly helped the size of the
business within 4 years.
He became Global Head of Product in January 2010, based out of GPN’s HQ at
Atlanta. Sid directs new product development as well as existing product
management initiatives on a worldwide basis, in support of Global
Payment’s strategic objectives. These include Host Products, Gateway
Products, E-Commerce, M-Commerce and Enabling Products such as
Risk/Reporting/Exception management merchant facing solutions.
Sid serves on the TAG FinTech Society Steering Committee. He received a
master’s degree in business administration with a dual specialization in
Marketing and Information Systems. He also holds a Bachelor of Mechanical
Engineering degree. Sid began his payments career with Citibank India. He
resides in Atlanta, with his wife and two children.
Ron Carpinella is Vice President of Identity Management at Equifax.
In this position, he manages the company’s initiatives in Identity
Management and has strategic oversight for the business, market and
product development in Identity assurance, security and management. He
currently sits on the Open Identity Exchange (OIX) Executive Board, and
has been a contributor to the President's National Strategy for Trusted
Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC). Before joining Equifax, Mr. Carpinella
served in leadership roles at prominent Internet media and technology
companies such as Google, Engage Media, Flycast, Fansonly and Relevant
Knowledge. Mr. Carpinella holds a B.A. from Purdue University and an M.B.A
from Duke University.
Alan Taetle joined NMP in 1998 and has focused his investment
activities on software and information technology companies. He currently
represents NMP on the boards of Acumen Holdings, Clearleap, Half Off
Depot, Movero, Virtustream and Vocalocity, and oversees one other
investment, Damballa. Alan was previously a director or observer for
several prior NMP investments, including SecureWorks (sold to Dell),
Adjoined Consulting (sold to Capgemini), OpenSite Technologies (sold to
Siebel Systems), CipherTrust (sold to Secure Computing), and PRE Holdings
(sold to InComm).
Prior to joining NMP, Alan was the Executive Vice President of Marketing
and Business Development for MindSpring (which merged with EarthLink in
2000). Alan joined MindSpring as its 13th employee in 1995, and oversaw
the company’s subscriber growth from 4,000 to over 325,000 in just three
years. Prior to MindSpring, Alan served in various systems and product
management roles with CogniTech Corporation, makers of contact management
software; Itochu International, a Japanese trading company; and Electronic
Data Systems, a systems integration consulting company. Alan is a previous
board member of ChoicePoint, Inc., a NYSE company (sale pending to Reed
Elsevier) focused on providing information that helps companies make
educated, intelligent choices to reduce risk and fraud.
Alan is the Immediate Past Chair of the Florida Venture Forum and serves
on the board of the Atlanta CEO Council. Alan serves on the Board of
Advisors of the Georgia Tech College of Computing. He is also a charter
member of TiE Atlanta. Alan serves on the Board of Directors of
GivingPoint, a nationwide community-based youth development organization.
Alan received a BA from the University of Michigan and an MBA from Harvard
Karen Webster is an accomplished executive, successful
entrepreneur, industry thought leader and passionate philanthropist.
As the CEO of Market Platform Dynamics, she works extensively with the
most innovative players in the financial services, mobile, B2B and
technology sectors to identify, ignite and monetize innovation. Market
Platform Dynamics is a leading global consultancy with offices in Atlanta,
Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, London and Hong Kong. Karen has a long
history of consulting experience, having served as the Managing Director
of Global Marketing and Planning for PricewaterhouseCoopers’ US$6 billion
management consulting practice. She led the firm’s eBusiness Strategic
Marketing taskforce and created the strategic positioning and go-to-market
approach for this firm-wide initiative. Karen later served as Chief
Operating Officer for a US$125 million consulting subsidiary that is part
of the MMC family of companies.
As an entrepreneur, Karen has successfully developed and launched several
new ventures in the loyalty, on-line media, and social networking sectors,
each of which was focused on introducing disruptive business models and
product solutions to fill a market need. This includes PYMNTS.com, the
leading media property focused innovation in the payments sector and a
joint venture with Berkshire Hathaway’s Business Wire. Karen also serves
as a member of the board for several emerging companies and helps these
innovators develop and implement business strategies that drive market
adoption for their products and services.
Karen’s recent work has focused on helping large multi-sided platform
companies develop innovation roadmaps and tactical ignition plans in a
very dynamic marketplace.
